Sza’s CTRL: An Unfinished Diary For The Lost 20 Something Girl In You
Unpopular opinion time.
At first listen, I wasn’t vibing as hard to SZA’s debut studio album, Ctrl, as much as my black millennial counterparts. I found it vapid, lost, OTT at points, underwritten in others. There was an overarching theme of being lost. Or perhaps, the 14-track LP played in its 49-minute span like a downward, and then upward self-deprecating spiral.
I met my best friend when I was 11 years old, and what I loved most she had such much soul.
Okay, seriously, the way Common personified hip hop and made H.E.R. his mirror, his heart, his rhythm, his soulmate, I could undeniably relate because I had my own her, without the beats and the rhymes, but heart and soul nonetheless. It’d take me years to realize just how or why, it’d take me years to realize that my best friend exemplified my true soulmate.
Model Nikia Phoenix: “Being A Freckled Face, Natural Haired Girl Isn’t Easy”
The first thing that draws me in about 35-year-old model and content creator extraordinaire Nikia Phoenix is the striking way freckles paint her face.
Her unconventional beauty, no doubt, is the thing that grabs you first, but it’s the quirks and fearlessness of her bold personality that echo enough within to make you stay. I could be biased though. I have been an avid reader of her blog, Model Liberation, for years.
I can only guess where your minds are after reading this title – somewhere between interested and not in a million years, disgust palpable at the very next exit – extremes not at all unique to the subject at hand. There’s something very taboo about a crimson dick.
What you might not know is the influence your sense of smell has on who you find attractive. Sexual chemistry is more than a person’s appearance, their style of dress, or the way that they talk. In fact, it is often an unspoken subtlety of the scent the person leaves behind that triggers something in your brain that you’re into them, that you’re feeling them, that you want them.
We stand more boldly within that the more we find it and the more we see others find it. It’s why we gravitate towards love stories, it gives us hope, and something to believe in. We see others get it right and hope that maybe one day we’ll get it right too.
3 Guys Share What It Means When A Man Is Emotionally Unavailable
Emotional unavailability is a label we assign to men who shy away from commitment.
These men partake in the conventional song and dance of most relationships: the good morning text, the occasional outing aptly titled as a “date”, the late night calls where they offer an ear to the women they’re involved with – because let’s face it, they are involved.
27 And In Need Of A Bone Marrow Transplant: You Could Be The Cure
The first time that I had ever heard of Be The Match was years ago when Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts announced her cancer diagnosis.
In the campaign that acted as a 30-second television spot, Roberts said, “I have a chance to survive blood cancer because my big sister answered ‘yes’ to being my marrow donor. You can join the Be The Match Registry today at BeTheMatch.org, and stand ready to cure someone with a disease like leukemia.”
From Heartbreak To Fade: Teyana Taylor On Embracing Her Winning Year
When one of us wins, we all win!
For many of us, Teyana Taylor got our attention as the tomboy with unapologetic attitude and carefree style planning her epic sixteenth bday party on MTV’s My Super Sweet Sixteen. And from there, followed her determination and grind to relevance as she pursued a career in music and film.
My First Orgasm Changed Everything I Thought I Knew About Sex
I can remember the way it felt the first time it hit me. Like I had been running for miles and was finally able to get a drink of water, like I was eating my first home cooked meal after have been starved for too long, like a crash without a wave – a rush of euphoria.
It built up in the lowest part of my womb, fighting to leave me so that I may arrive. I had no idea I had it in me, not for another soul at least.
How I’m Cultivating Better Self Love Through the Use of Yoni Eggs
I miscarried last year and it was one of the most devastating life occurrences I ever experienced.
It surprised me how much it affected my day to day, my self esteem, and my feelings of being capable of doing what I am supposed to be capable of doing as a woman. I did not even know I wanted a child until I realized one had been lost. The timing was more than wrong, so I deemed fate as a factor. But still, logic didn’t counter the emotions I harbored about miscarrying.
Why One Woman Chose To Embrace Polyamory In Her Marriage
I have a mostly traditional view of relationships and consider myself to be very monogamous by nature.
If a future together is the goal, I’ll rock with you until I have nothing left in me to give, and from my partner, I expect the same. Now, there has been a time or two where the door to our bedroom has been opened to another, but they were only guests, never mainstay attractions in our relationship and never more than us adding depth to the bevy of our sexual experiences together.
This Dance Class Is Helping Women Get Their Sexy Back
“Y’all don’t hear me!”
The words echoed throughout the dance studio as Monica Wilson, founder of XOTICY—a dance class for the every-day woman to build confidence, self-esteem, endurance, and sensuality—played back the song that had filled the otherwise quiet room. She walked to the mirrored wall before taking her place in the center of the class. If we couldn’t hear her, she made us listen the best way she knew how: through her body.
Traffic is a driver’s biggest foe and one they encounter often during early morning and after work commutes.
Let’s face it, traffic is something we all can say we can’t stand and Atlanta traffic can sometimes be a nightmare, especially during rush hour. If you are a native of the city, you probably know traffic has no time preference in Atlanta. There can be traffic at 9 am, at 11 am, at 1 pm, and even at 11:54 pm – traffic knows no bounds.
Every restaurant that is any restaurant has their version of a burger. That can be a classic burger with your basic patty, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and the like, or a more featured burger that acts as a shameless culmination meant to make some taste bud magic in your mouth. The burger is easy to make but difficult to master, which is why foodies spend a significant amount of their time looking for the best spots to indulge in a truly great burger.
If you ask me, Happy hour is the real golden hour of the day. For most professionals, it symbolizes the end of the work day and acts as a smooth segue to the livelier side of the work-life balance we’re all trying to manage. Happy hour can mean different things to different people, whether it’s a round of drinks with coworkers or a solo shot. With all intents and purposes, happy hour is meant to help us unwind as we indulge after long work days and even longer days.
BACK TO BLACK: A #BLKCREATIVES REVIEW OF FANTASTIC FOUR
Directed by Josh Trank, Fantastic Four is a contemporary re-imagining of the franchise that had not seen the light of day since 2005’s underwhelming effort with the Tim Story-directed film and its sequel. During the first stop on the film’s press tour in Atlanta at the CinéBistro theatre, cast members Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell were all in attendance. The Atlanta screening was a VIP special screening where the stars were getting their first look at the film alongside the guests invited to attend the premiere as well.
