My first time to New Orleans happened three years ago and it left me with some of my most favorite memories a place has ever given me. I haven’t been to many places in my life, but everything that people say about New Orleans is true. It has a magic to it that can only be described as NOLA magic that touches any and every one that travels along its path, eats its food, touches its people, and dances to its music as life spills into their streets.
I wanted to go back since but didn’t see the opportunity present itself until ESSENCE Fest 2018. I joined their press junket to produce content while dipping my feet into the experiences different brands had to offer in conjunction with the tourism board. It was amazing, and I saw parts of the city I don’t think I would have ever thought to look, like the Free People of Color Museum or the swamp tour.
I also met a lot of black women who helped me see pieces of myself in them and allowed me to feel the community with women who walked in similar rooms as me and on similar paths. It was one of my favorite parts of my trip. You can read more about that here.
My most favorite shamelessly and unapologetically happened my last night there, but you can read all about that here.
I know this post is late AF (hence the “Throwback Thursday” in the title) but my blog was on a bit of a hiatus (unintentionally) during the chaos of my summer. But still, it sure feels damn good to relive the memories once again.
What’s one of your favorite memories from this year?
