How to Care for Crochet Faux Locs
Crochet faux locs have become my go-to protective style whenever I need to give my hands and my strands a break. Now that I'm committed to retaining length (yes, I've put down the scissors), I have to factor in low manipulation styles into my hair routine more regularly. So, for a month, I kept my hair weaved up. I also paid close attention to how I cared for my hair underneath the protective style.
Check out the details on how to care for crochet faux locs down below:
- Braid Pattern: Straight back into cornrows
- Hair Details: Bomba Dreadlocks Faux Locs Soul 1B 18" in length, 6-7 bags
- Styling Time: 2 hours
- Daily: oiling and conditioning my scalp every 2-3 days; using a braid sheen spray everyday
- Bi-weekly: a scalp cleanse with water, diluted shampoo, and a towel
For someone who is prone to an itchy scalp, natural hair brands making a change to create products that cater more directly to protective style has been a lifesaver. Taliah Waajid products in particular came through and then some with soothing my scalp and keep my hair underneath my protective style conditioned and moisturized.
Taliah Waajid has an entire line created and formulated to address protective style hair care needs, aptly titled Taliah Waajid Protective Styles. I used the Bamboo, Basil & Peppermint Anti-Itch Serum and the Bamboo, Avocado & Peppermint Conditioning Restoring Serum. Both products complemented the other well. As mentioned above, I would use the products every other day or every few days and layered them on top of each other. Loved it!
